The results of the first round of the RSA Leinster Senior Cup are now all in. A beautiful day saw some very exciting contests with a couple going right down to the wire. Early on North County had a comfortable nine wicket win over Rush. Next up a tightly fought game between Balbriggan and Phoenix with the bowlers on top. Great all round performance by Tom Anders. Leinster hung in for a long time but could not overhaul a massive score by The Hills with Cormac McLaughlin leading the way with a century.
YMCA and Pembroke fought out a ding dong affair all afternoon. Could have gone either way but in the end Pembroke managed to defend 220 by 16 runs - key wickets by U17 David Murphy made the difference for Pembroke. Clontarf were never quite in control and kept losing wickets but managed to hold their nerve in chasing down a Terenure score of 189 and winning by two wickets.
And finally a high scoring and tense affair in Malahide which saw first a century by Rheinhart Strydom and then a valiant effort by Dhruv Kapoor who also made 100 but it just wasn't enough as Malahide squeezed home by five runs.
So the teams for the next round - North County, Clontarf, The Hills, Phoenix, Malahide, Pembroke, Cork County and Merrion. Three D2 sides make it to the second round.
