Ring Commons Cricket Club was originally founded in 1978. A piece of common land in North Fingal, located just outside Balbriggan, was reclaimed by a group of local men and this land became the site of Ring Commons Cricket Club. Unfortunately, the cricket club only survived for more than a decade however, sport in the Ring Commons area flourished and became the site for the Ring Commons Sports Centre.
The Ring Commons Sports Centre accommodates pitch and putt, rugby and soccer teams and boasts top facilities including changing rooms, showers, bar and tea/function rooms.
Members of the original Ring Commons cricket team are still actively involved in the Ring Commons Sports Centre and its committees. It was decided this year, due to the ‘buzz’ surrounding Irish cricket, that the time was right to re-launch cricket in Ring Commons.
A new artificial wicket is being installed in the New Year and plans are in motion to purchase mobile nets for training sessions. The hope for the club is to establish a youth system and second team as soon as possible to ensure that the future of cricket is safely maintained and nurtured in Ring Commons.
The Ring Commons Cricket team is already entered in the Leinster Cricket League for next season and both new and old members are relishing the thought of playing competitively in Ring Commons once again.
New members of all levels are welcome and are indeed needed to help on and off the field!
