It was another comprehensive victory for Dom Joyce's charges in the Future Series this afternoon, as the Sherwin-O'Riordan sponsored Leinster Lightning Bolts made it 3/3 in the tournament so far in today's T20 game against the Emerging Warriors.
Having won the toss, the Bolts' skipper Philippe le Roux won the toss and elected to bowl first, a good opening spell from Mikey O'Reilly saw him rewarded with the early wicket of Dhram Singh, before Matthew Weldon dismissed Liam Doherty with the first ball of his spell.
Partnerships between Gavin Roulston and Scott Macbeth, and latterly some decent ball striking by Australian Harry Zimmerman were all kept under relative control by the Bolts' spin attack, Hamza Maan and Daniel Forkin picking up a wicket apiece during their three over spells.
O'Reilly and Cian Egerton returned at the death and both took a wicket apiece to round off a good bowling performance, keeping the opposition to just 128, which appeared to be a below par score. O'Reilly finished the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/26 in his four overs.
The chase began like a runaway train, with Swapnil Modgil and Adam Rosslee opening the batting for the Bolts with some fantastic stroke-making, the pair traded boundaries until midway through the third over, when Modgil took over, hitting a six and four boundaries in the next 7 balls he faced, a Rosslee boundary brought up the fifty partnership in just 26 deliveries.
The in-form Rosslee rounded out the PowerPlay with a maximum as the opening 6 overs garnered 72 runs without loss, seeing the Bolts firmly on the front foot. Modgil brought up his 50 from just 26 balls, including 10 boundaries and a maximum, before falling to a good low catch at short fine leg for 57.
Having seen another in-form man in Chris de Freitas adjudged LBW first ball, Rosslee lined up to faced the 11th over with 18 runs still needed for victory, he promptly delivered 17 of them himself, including depositing a massive six over deep mid-wicket to complete the chase in jig time.
The second game of the Lightning Bolts visit to the North West takes place tomorrow at 10:45 with a 50 over fixture where the side will aim to make it four wins from four in the tournament.
