Two issues remain to be resolved in D2. Although Terenure remain comfortably in place for the second promotion spot, they still need to win one of their final two games to be sure of D1 status next year. Today they take on Leinster II at home. Even were there to be an upset they would have a second chance next week against Malahide. Rush, 32 points adrift, really have only a very outside chance and must win in Kenure today against Malahide.
The real battle, however, is at the bottom of the table where Merrion II and Balbriggan are fighting to see who will avoid the second relegation spot. They go head to head in Balbriggan today and victory for Balbriggan will almost certainly guarantee that they stay in D2. If Merrion win, as they did earlier in the season at Anglesea Road, then they will go into the last round hoping that Balbriggan are not given a second chance by Rush in the final match. Merrion’s last game is against Clontarf and realistically the most that they can be hope for will be an odd bonus point or two.
