There are currently three men's teams at Rush Cricket Club playing across the Leinster Open Competition structures. Like the youth teams, the men’s sides have also been successful in recent years. In 2015, the firsts won the National Cup, doubled up in 2016 and then won it again in 2018, all achieved with a core of home-grown talent from within the club.
The 2nd team had recent success, winning Open Division 5 in 2019 whilst the 3rd team is the place where young talent is nurtured before further advancement within the club.
The Underage Boys teams at Rush CC have been very successful over the past decade. The boys have had All-Ireland wins with the U11 and U13s in 2014, the U13s in 2017 and the U15s in 2016 and 2018 with Leinster titles also secured in each of these years.
In recognising this success, there are two club stalwarts in particular to acknowledge:
Firstly, Séan McCann whose hard work and dedication to the Youth Section over many years, as both a Coach & Organiser of fixtures, has led numerous teams to much success and enjoyment of the game. There is always a major emphasis on maximising participation as well as achieving success on the field of play.
Secondly, it is critical to acknowledge the contribution of Lynal Jansen. Everyone at Rush CC understands the extent to which Lynal was instrumental in the development of so many excellent youth cricketers (both boys & girls) during his long tenure at the club. He is well remembered by all the excellent players who came through the Rush Academy, players like Neil Rock, Stephen Doheny, Nathan McGuire and many others.
“Our major success came when the club set up its Academy under Lynal Jansen which our youth bought into and excelled.” – Séan McCann.
“Special mention to Lynal Jansen who played a major part in my development as a player and there’s lots of others in the same boat.” – Neil Rock.
“In 2006, we brought Lynal Jansen across from Paarl, Western Province, South Africa who made a huge impression at the club as a player and a coach for the following 10 years.” – Brían O’Rourke.
Brían also mentioned the upcoming talent in the Rush CC youth system as follows:
“In recent times, we have had lots of boys & girls from Rush CC involved with the Leinster youth training programmes we run every year. It has been a joy to see some of these Rush players really progress in the game over recent years. It would seem that there is another good batch of players coming through now, with several involved with our Leinster u11 programme these last few seasons, that can only bode well for the future of the club.”
It's clear that Lynal had a hugely positive impact at the club with his coaching and his dedication to improving player performances. It shows that a good coaching system can lead to great players and a great club atmosphere.
In that context, we are delighted to welcome Barry Scott appointed as our Director of Cricket at the club – exciting times ahead and hopefully more success on the field of play!
