Rush 156/2 in 18.4 overs (G Atkinson 75, R O'Donohoe 36, M Butterly 2-37)
DLS Target 140 in 15 overs
The HIlls 69/3 in 15 overs (C Ericson 18, A Scollard 17*, E Jones 2-11, M O'Odonohoe1-3)
Rush win by 71 runs (DLS)
Rush won the toss and decided to bat first, hoping that their strong opening record this season would be continued. And so it proved with Atkinson and O'Donohoe putting on 62 for the first wicket. With Molly Butterly taking her first wicket, Atkinson was joined by Ellie McGee who put on an unbeaten 33 in a partnership of 91.
Atkinson went for one shot too many, bowled for 75 in the 19th over and two balls later the heavens opened with a summer downpour that is all too familar.
That break brought about the end of the innings and the reduction of The Hills' innings to 15 overs. The DLS calculation set the imposing target of 140 in those 15 overs.
The Hills Captain Cliodhna O'Riordan opened with Miranda Andrews and both set out with intent. But the required run rate was too big a burden and the Rush bowlers just needed to maintain accuracy. So it proved, with wickets for Elyse Jones (2-11) and Mabel O'Donohoe (1-3) restricting The Hills to 69 in their 15 overs.
Rush sealed the cup, to the jubilation of the large home crowd. During the presentation speeches the significant work of the Rush groundstaff to get the game resumed so quickly was noted, with many grounds being unable to withstand such significant downpours.
