The Sherwin O’Riordan sponsored Leinster Lightning face off against Munster Reds this week in a back-to-back IP20 and IP50 double header of matches at the Mardyke, with Head Coach Andre Botha confirming his squad for the two fixtures today.
Wednesday 7th August: Munster Reds vs Leinster Lightning (IP20, 3.30pm start)
Thursday 8th August: Munster Reds vs Leinster Lightning (IP50, 10.45am start)
With almost all the International contracted players available, Andre Botha has the unusual luxury of being able to select his strongest squad since the first IP20 festival back in early May. Only Josh Little who is nominally in the Lightning squad is not available and hasn’t played for the province for a couple of seasons now.
There is only personnel difference between the IP20 and IP50 squads with Seamus Lynch included for the T20 clash whilst Chris DeFreitas joins the squad for the longer format on the following day.
The Leinster team are well placed in the 20-Over competition as they lead the group table with just three matches still to play – this fixture in the Mardyke and then home games against the Northern provinces in late August and early September at Sydney Parade and Oak Hill respectively:
By contrast, the team faces an uphill battle to achieve respectability in the IP50 format having not won any of their three fixtures to-date having suffered hugely from issues with player availability, injuries and allocations elsewhere.
The squad for the trip down south includes no less than six players from the Pembroke club with six clubs represented in the squad as a whole.
