Kirk Shimmins was named man of the match after he took five wickets and scored 31 at the top of the order to lead Merrion to what amounted to a comfortable victory in the U19 Leinster final.
On any other day, however, Tyrone Kane - who was unexpectedly available for this match when the Ireland U17 match was abandoned due to rain - would have had good reason to expect the honour, also taking five wickets and scoring an unbeaten 25.
North County won the toss and elected to bat first, only reaching a disappointing 87, all out in the 18th over. Johnno Andrews top-scored for the northsiders with 21. Merrion put the visitors under pressure early on, with an outstanding fielding performance illustrated by four well-taken catches.
Chris Allwright and Shimmins opened for the home side and set up the win, scoring 26 and 31 respectively. Tyrone Kane (25) and Dave Watkins (1) then finished the match off to give the Anglesea Road side a resounding eight-wicket win in the 12th over.
