Cricket Leinster is delighted to announce that Ross Shivmangal of Knockharley CC is the winner of both the Oulton Cup (leading bowler) and Webster Cup (leading all-rounder) for the Tillain Cup 2020.
To start with, his 16 wickets at an average of 9.63 were extremely impressive as a stat in itself, but when we delve deeper into his bowling, an economy of 4.67 per over in a season where every game was T20 is outstanding. He also bowled 33 out of a maximum possible 36 overs across the course of Knockharley’s 9 games, showing just how important his skills were to the side.
Shivmangal just squeezed out competition from Fadi Khan, Anthony Mooney and Conor Cooney, all of whom passed the 15 wicket mark for the season, and all of whom had an average between 9.67 and 9.80.
As for the Webster Cup, Shivmangal’s 16 wickets when put alongside his contribution of 219 runs at an average of 24.33, including two half-centuries, put him well clear of his next closest challenger, Gavin Hoey of Pembroke (who also had a fine campaign).
Whilst it was certainly not a one-man-show in Knockharley, Shivmangal’s exploits played no small part in helping his club reach the Tillain Cup final for the first time in 2020. Having finished 5th in Division 5 in 2019, the step up to competing against Division 3 and 4 sides was no small ask, but the Kentstown club took it in their stride, and even saw off 2019 Division 3 champions YMCA 2 in their semi-final tie.
No doubt a sign of the growing depth of the quality of cricket being played right across the province, Knockharley’s 2020 season should give great encouragement to any club with aspirations of rising through the leagues.
Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to Ross on this fantastic achievement, winning both the Oulton and Webster Cups for the 2020 season!
