We are pleased to announce that Sorcha Cunningham has been appointed to the role of CL Women’s & Girls Programme Co-Ordinator commencing July 2024.
Sorcha has worked for over a decade in Youth Sports, primarily in Hockey coaching & management. She has experience working with schools, clubs, Leinster teams and Irish Hockey, and has been involved in Merrion CC as a Youth Administrator.
Sorcha notes: “I am very excited to take on this role in Cricket Leinster working to help develop Women’s & Girls cricket. It has been inspiring to watch the growth of Women’s & Girls cricket over the last few years and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be involved in its further progression and growth over the coming years.”
There are 28 clubs across the province with registered female players with significant growth being seen especially at clubs which have either entered or reentered competitions over recent years including Terenure CC which now has over 40 registered female players, Balbriggan CC with 37 registered and our newest entrant, Adamstown CC which already has over 30 registered female players. We are also seeing some encouraging growth at regional level including 22 registered female players at Mullingar CC and a further 30 players across Carlow & Kilkenny.
In welcoming Sorcha to our team, we encourage all clubs (especially well established clubs which currently only participate in Open competitions) to develop a female programme and you can be sure of proactive support from the CL team.
