Cricket Development Officers and their coaches started back into schools in the South Dublin area in September. South Dublin County Council’s Health & Wellbeing week, September 12th-18th, kicked off with a Primary School Activities Day in Tallaght stadium. Over 200 students there trying out all the different sports and we were delighted to be a part of it. 24 schools gave cricket a go for the first time. The week ended with a Family Fun Day in Corkagh Park.
September and October have been busy with visits from Kenny Carroll, Diarmuid Lynch, Naomi Scott-Hayward and Michael Cotter in primary and secondary schools in the area.
We had 65 boys from 3rd class enjoying school yard Cricket at Ballyroan Boys NS in Rathfarnham. Over 260 children playing cricket for the first time in St Killians JNS in Kingswood. 14 TY students from Firhouse Community College completed a 'kwik cricket games' leadership workshop.
Almost 90 4th class boys in St. Joseph’s NS in Clondalkin learning cricket skills and building the ground work for the school to continue session during PE so that next spring they can partake in the Leprechaun Cup competitions.
Coming up to Christmas there will be more school visits as well as coaching clinics starting in The King’s Hospital, Palmerstown. Inclusion Cricket will also play a role with the support of The Lord’s Taverners. Cricket Leinster coaches will deliver session at the SD Sport Partnership’s Halloween multi-sports camp for children with disabilities. The inclusion group in Collinstown, who go by the name of Gladiator’s, are also starting back in Collinstown Community Centre where we will be delivering Table Cricket sessions. In December we hope to finish the year with a Table Cricket Competition with all the centres that have taken part throughout 2016.
