Last weekend saw another great development in the histiry of cricket in Leinster as the first ever organised league for over 50s cricketers started, with Leinster South beating Leinster North by 70 runs.
The match took place in the home of Laois CC, and the club has put a massive amount of work in getting the concept off the ground. The South batted first and ran up a 40 over score of 155, thanks to 52 from Ian Woodward, 42 from John Murphy and a swashbuckling 25* from Peter Bouclier at the end.
Leinster North found the going tough with the guiles of North Kildare's Ian Walsh proving especially problematical. Only Dundalk's Gerard McKeever passed 20 as the visitors were bowled out for 85.
The next match in the series is in Observatory Lane, Rathmines this Saturday. There are still some gaps to fill, so if you are voer 50 and would fancy a match in Observatory Lane, get in touch with Duncan Grehan at dgrehan@duncangrehan.com
