St Andrew's won the under 14's final at St Columba’s College. Winning the toss St Andrew’s elected to bat and were soon in deep trouble at 22 for 4. The St Mary’s bowling was tight and the fielding superb with a direct hit from the boundary running out Geoff Cole. Michael Hoey, Gareth Delany, David Matthews and Mark Fogarty impressed with the ball.
However in a remarkable turnaround in fortunes Aaron Bailey (61) and Cameron Shoebridge (31) put together a patient stand of 91 that saw Andrew's finish on 129 for 7. On what turned out to be a wicket for bowlers this proved to be a very good total.
The St Mary's response started poorly with Michael Hoey and Derry O’Connor out cheaply. Mark Forgarty and Daniel Hogan put up some resistance but with some excellent bowling Mary’s found it difficult to score and kept losing wickets and the total proved too difficult for them. Aaron Bailey and Cameron Shoebridge bowled very well and were ably supported by their fielders with an impressive performance from the St Andrew’s wicketkeeper, Jazz Henry. St Marys finished on 91-9 from their 30 overs. Daniel Hogan scored 15, Mark Forarty 12 while Cameron Shoebridge took 2-12 and Ross Nicol 1-14.
One striking image from yesterday’s game was to see two left-arm bowlers operating from both ends for St Andrew's and two spinners operating from both ends for St Mary's during the Andrew’s innings.
