St Matthew’s from Irishtown obtained their first victory in the Leprechaun Cup when beating Milverton NS by 19 runs at a sunny Hills Cricket Club on Monday. The final was the last in a series of games played around Leinster over the past eleven weeks and marked the 10th season of this most successful development competition.
The Leprechaun Cup continues to be the flagship for cricket development in Leinster with many new schoolchildren now being given the opportunity to play hardball cricket during their primary school years. Running parallel with the Leprechaun Cup this year was the Super League, the 4th Class Cup and also the Fingal Cup for girls’ Primary schools who’s final will take place again at Milverton this coming Friday involving Milverton NS and Balrothery NS.
To present the trophy (sponsored by the Leprechaun’s CC) were Dick Forrest and Alan Smith.
