The following statement in relation to the use of non-turf wickets was agreed by the Executive of the LCU at its April meeting.
"It is the view of the Executive Committee of the Union that to play [Open Competitions] Division 1 cricket Leinster clubs shall be required to meet the Category A criteria for its grounds and facilities as set out in the Leinster Cricket Union Accreditation Mark Document, which process shall be implemented shortly.
While it is an objective of this Union that wherever possible this Union's Division 1 league and senior cup competitions should be played on good quality turf wickets, the playing of such cricket on a good quality non-turf wicket shall be allowed."
It is now a matter for the Open Competitions Committee and other relevant committees to examine the implications of this statement in the carrying out of their functions.
A meeting this evening with clubs [Pembroke CC at 7.30] will provide further explanation on the implementation of the Leinster Cricket Union Accreditation [ClubGrade] process.
