Cricket Leinster is pleased to confirm that Stella Downes, President Elect of Cricket Leinster will now become President with immediate effect.
Given the unprecedented circumstances associated with Covid-19, it has not yet been possible to hold our 2020 AGM and as a result, Peter Thew continued in the role of President for the abbreviated 2020 club cricket season which has just concluded. We are hugely appreciative of Peter's continued leadership over this period and indeed for his brilliant year as President in 2019 when we celebrated our Centenary with many events, both on and off the field of play.
With the abbreviated 2020 club cricket season now concluded, Peter has expressed a desire to step down and accordingly, Stella Downes becomes the new Cricket Leinster President for 2021. Stella is universally liked and respected across the club cricket community and has served our great game in so many ways over the years including as President of Clontarf Cricket Club.
Stella will bring a wealth of skills and experience to the role of President and is already on the Cricket Leinster Board so is well briefed on all the key issues and challenges facing club cricket as we begin to plan for the 2021 season.
Please join with us in congratulating Stella on her appointment as Cricket Leinster President for 2021 - in doing so, Stella becomes the first female President in our 102nd year.
