Swords Cricket Club was formed just two years ago in Newbridge Park, Swords with the help of Cricket Leinster and Fingal County Council. The club has come on tremendously and currently fields two teams in the Leinster league.
A new venture for the club was to start a youth section within the club and with the help of Reinhardt Strydom (Fingal Development Officer), Ryan Gallagher and Alan Reynolds a Summer Camp for children was held Monday to Wednesday, 21st -23rd of July. The coaching got off to a good start as children from the local schools turned up for a morning of fun and lots of good cricket activities. The sessions consisted of fun and games, also children were taught the basic techniques of batting, bowling and fielding. All three days were very enjoyable for the 25 children attending.
With seven local schools in the area now playing cricket in the schoolyard this will be great news for children in the area to have a club nearby to join. The goal will be for the club to be able to enter some youth teams into the Leinster leagues next year. Next summer the club will be looking to run cricket coaching sessions for children on a weekly basis.
Members from Swords Cricket Club will also be attending Coaching Courses over the winter.
Thanks to Fingal County Council and Cricket Leinster for all their support in getting this new club off the ground.
