Friday saw 22 pupils of St Joseph’s Special Needs School in Balrothery Tallaght, take part in their first session of Table Cricket.
Naomi and Amy did a very quick demonstration of how the game works and introduced the rules as they happened, so not to bombard the pupils.
After 20-25 minutes of a practice match we moved on to a T20 game. At this stage all the rules were introduced and they were telling us with the use of the Table Cricket hand signals if it was a 4, 6 or dot ball! We split the group into two evenly matched teams.
We named them 'Team Bernie' the SNA and 'Team Andy Murray' the name of the youngest player in the room. ‘Team Bernie’ batted first and made 108 runs and lost 6 wickets but held their nerve with the ball as they kept ‘Team Andy Murray’ to 107 runs also for the loss of six wickets.
The highest score of the day was from Abdula who hit six sixes in his six balls and the best bowling figures were by Megan- 4 for 16 off 2.
Table Cricket will be back in St Joseph's next Friday for a rematch!
