Table Cricket Leinster – South Dublin Tournament 2016
On Tuesday Cricket Leinster ran a Table Cricket tournament as a wrap up before Christmas for all the schools and centres in the South Dublin centre. St. Michael’s House in Tempelogue kindly hosted the event for the second year. Last year was the first time we had run the tournament, and this year it was even bigger and better. We had a total of 7 teams participating throughout the day. One of which was Cheeverstown House School who played 2 friendly matches against St. Joseph’s Special School’s from Tallaght (team 2) and the host’s 2nd team. In addition to those teams, we had St. Michael’s House Turas centre. A total of almost 50 players took part and received Certificates of Attendance from Cricket Leinster, as well as the winners, St. Michael’s House Turas Centre, receiving a medal each and a cup to bring back to their centre.
There was a total of 12 matches played in comparison to only 6 last year, and we had two tables running at a time. St. Michael’s House (SMH) Turas Centre team who called themselves the ‘Turas Troopers’ won the competition with only one defeat.
In addition to our Cricket Leinster Coaches, Kenny Carroll, Diarmuid Lynch, Michael Cotter, Donal Lynch and I, we also had with us Hollie Erskine from TY in Lucan Community College gaining valuable experience
Well done to all the participants at the tournament today – an exciting and enjoyable day for everyone involved with the teams. Great to see this event being built on from its success last year. Role on year 3 of the tournament, I know all the participants are looking forward to 2017, with the winners SMH Turas centre already planning friendly matches with their counterparts in Tempelogue.
A massive thank you has to go to Debbie Doyle and Stephen and their team from St. Michael’s House in Tempelogue for hosting the event. A thank you to The Lord’s Taverners and South Dublin County Council for their continued support in their funding to make it possible to deliver sessions in these training centres and schools. They help Cricket Leinster to make cricket an accessible sport through the game of Table Cricket within South Dublin and across the province. In early 2017, Cricket Leinster are delighted to be running a similar event in the Dublin City CC area with thanks to Dublin City Sports Partnership. There will also be a Irish Wheelchair Table Cricket Tournament.
