Table Cricket Tournament - February 13th 2017
On February 13th, Cricket Leinster delivered a Table Cricket tournament at Ballyfermot Leisure Centre to mark off what has been a fantastic couple of weeks of activities in the Dublin City Area.
We had five teams participating: two from the host venue St. John of Gods Program, two from the Eve Airdnua group in Finglas and one group from the Omni Training Centre. Thirty players in total took part with medals provided by Dublin City Council. Each team competed in two games on the day. All teams involved have put a lot of hard work and dedication into training and ironically, all teams won one game each leaving no outright winner on the day.
In the build-up to the competition, each group had completed a 6-week training block, learning all the different skills involved in Table Cricket. Fintan Mc Allister (Dublin City Council Development Officer), Diarmuid Lynch, Naomi Scott-Hayward and the carers from the 4 centres, carried out these sessions.
Dublin City Sports Development Officers John Mc Donald and Gareth Herbert have been driving this programme forward of late. “It was something completely new to me and the day itself was fantastic,” said Mc Donald whilst Gareth Herbert said, “All groups loved the training for the tournament and we hope to build on this from year to year”.
Well done to all 30 participants at the tournament – an exciting and enjoyable day for everyone involved with the teams. I think we can safely say on behalf of all the participants, helpers, coaches, carers and staff, that this is certainly a day to be repeated at some stage during 2017.
Cricket Leinster would like to thank Dublin City Council and The Lord Taverners for their continued support of these programmes.
