With just over a quarter of the matches for the season completed it seems a reasonable time to have a first look at the team statistics for Division 1 [Leinster League and Cup matches only]
The first table sets out the basic figures - Win Ratio, Runs For and Against and Wickets Lost and Taken. Three teams have 80% win ratios - Clontarf, Phoenix and Pembroke but other than that without looking at which teams batted first there are only limited conclusions one can draw from the aggregate figures.
P | W | L | Win Ratio | Runs F | Runs A | W [L] | W [T]
Clontarf | 5 | 4 | 1 | 80% | 1363 | 1186 | 32 | 43 |
Merrion | 5 | 2 | 3 | 40% | 1345 | 1034 | 38 | 36 |
N County | 5 | 2 | 3 | 40% | 1144 | 1066 | 39 | 35 |
Pembroke | 5 | 4 | 1 | 80% | 1271 | 1027 | 34 | 45 |
Phoenix | 5 | 4 | 1 | 80% | 1434 | 1045 | 33 | 37 |
Railway U | 4 | 4 | 0% | 923 | 993 | 34 | 19
The Hills | 5 | 3 | 2 | 60% | 1111 | 1301 | 29 | 41 |
YMCA | 5 | 2 | 3 | 40% | 982 | 1162 | 31 | 34 |
The second table is more interesting in that it shows run rates for the different teams. Six teams have scoring rates of greater than 5 runs per over, confirming just how difficult it is in the modern one day game to keep scores below 250. On the other hand four teams have managed to keep total runs scored just below the magic 5 runs per over figure. Runs per wicket don’t mean as much as they once did but the table shows two teams scoring at over 40 runs per wicket [Phoenix and Clontarf] and only one [Pembroke] containing the oppostiion to below 30 per wicket.
RR For | RR Ag | Runs/A | Runs/F
Clontarf | 5.43 | 5.03 | 27.58 | 42.59 |
Merrion | 5.42 | 5.14 | 28.72 | 35.39 |
N County | 5.00 | 4.96 | 30.46 | 29.33 |
Pembroke | 5.43 | 4.69 | 22.82 | 37.38 |
Phoenix | 5.88 | 4.50 | 28.24 | 43.45 |
Railway U | 4.81 | 5.31 | 52.26 | 27.15 |
The Hills | 5.12 | 5.25 | 31.73 | 38.31 |
YMCA | 4.53 | 4.56 | 34.18 | 31.68 |
The final table - prompted by some very impressive individual performances this year - looks to see how reliant teams are on one player and then on the top three bats as a percentage of total runs scored by the team. Daniel Solway and Kenny Carroll stand out as making the greatest contribution to their team’s aggregate totals. One final point - of the eight top performers only two learnt their cricket in Ireland. On a more positive note - only two of the eight are current ‘overseas’ players.
