It was quite a week for Harry Tector, scoring his maiden first-class century (146) for the Northern Knights, and following it up two days later with 137 for his club YMCA against Rush.
On Saturday he also added 215 for the 2nd wicket with his brother Jack, who made 88. It was Harry’s second senior ton, after his 117 against Phoenix two years ago.
That was the first double-century partnership by a pair of brothers in over 100 years of senior league and cup action in Leinster. Sixty-five stands exceeding 200 have been made in that time.
The only other such partnership by family members was the unbeaten 221 made by Rodney Molins (75*) and his son Jason (171*) in 1999 playing for Railway Union in the Nevitt.
Jack and Harry also set a new club record for the 2nd wicket. There were only two previous YMCA stands over 200 – Tom Fisher and Jack Tector’s 237 for the first wicket against Railway Union in 2015, and Simi Singh and PJ Moor’s unbeaten 211 for the third wicket against North County the year before.
It was the eighth double-century stand made at Kenure Park.
The provincial record is still the 342 made by Hugh Pike (168*) and Josh Tasman-Jones (140) for Dublin University against Leinster in 2013. That same summer Tom Fisher (151*) and Richie Lawrence (155*) made the only other triple-century stand, but fell 20 short playing for Terenure against the same opposition.
