There were victories for both Gorey and Terenure this afternoon, as the latter played host to the Junior and Minor Cup Finals, both sponsored by GS Cricket.
Firstly, the Junior Cup final kicked off the day, as Gorey won the toss and elected to bat first, Yasith Kamburugamuwa opened the batting, making 45 before he was dismissed by Talha Azhar, who was the most impressive of the North County bowlers, taking 2/23 from his three over spell.
Brady Archer was the star of the show for the Wexford side, he made a superb 66* from 50 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes, in an excellent innings which was the backbone of the innings, a late 25 not out from Blaise Cramer also added some impetus to the innings as they finished 161/5 from their 20 overs. Johan George also provided a superb set of figures for the Inch side, as they were set what was deemed locally to be roughly a par score.
In reply, Anslam Diaz dismissed Safdar Ali in the first over, before Brady Archer dismissed his opening partner Umar Khan. There were starts for Muhammad Mubeen and Rana Muhammad Hasan Ur Rahman, however when both perished and the score was 71/5, the winning line looked a long way away for County.
An excellent spell from Naleem Ibrahim of 3/17, including top scoring Ahmad Khlid for 32, stunted the chase to 119/8, however a late flourish from Sherjeel Ilyas kept North County in the game. Gorey however held their nerve, and saw themselves to a 6 run win off the last ball of the innings.
The second game of the day saw Terenure win the toss and continuing the theme of the day they opted to bat first, after they had taken 9 from the first over, Aayush Mogare and Vaibhav Teotia fell in consecutive deliveries to Amear Mohammed to reduce the score to 10/2.
Manav Saraviya anchored the innings, making a fine 47 and bringing the score to 77 before he was the fifth man dismissed. A two wicket spell from Sohail Khan saw the back of Ashwani Khatri and Abhishek Rathor, however 22 from Vinay Bhardwaj, and a quick 16 from Khizar Jan helped Terenure up to a decent total of 148 all out with one ball to spare, again the local knowledge figured this to be short of par.
Ken Brennan opened the bowling for Terenure, and he took 2/14 from his four overs, and when Vinay Bhardwaj completed his 4 over spell 0/25, the score was 39/2, and Terenure had put themselves into an excellent position. Shakeer Khaja was dismissed by Anand Haritwal for 24, before the same bowler then ran out opener Wasiq Ansari for 10.
Haritwal closed his spell out with 2/18 from his 4 overs, before Viraj Bhalekar took the wicket of Sheriar Irani. Khizar Jan entered the attack and took 2/26, including the vital wicket of Hamza Moinuddin, who top scored with and excellent 34 from just 13 balls batting at number 10. It was then left to Mikey Hanrahan to take the final wicket of Abrar Syed and bowling Castleknock out for 132, securing a 16 run win for Terenure, and back to back trophies for the team after their Adamstown Cup victory in the 2021 season.
