After a fantastic response from cricket followers in Leinster and beyond, the final shortlist of five names for the new Leinster team in Cricket Ireland's Interprovincial Series has been revealed.
There was a strong royal flavour to the nominations, with many names referring to Leinster's rich ancient history. Both Laigins and High Kings refer to a vast period of history between 600 BC and 600 AD. After this period, the Vikings entered the Dublin arena, with much of the city's early history being attributed to the marauding race.
The harp also has a deep historical resonance with the province, being used as a symbol of Leinster since the 17th century.
Lightning is the odd one out. Apart from being a sign of rain, not too much of a link with the province, but a popular suggestion none the less.
