With the NCU and North West concentrating on T20 action this weekend, it was the turn of Leinster clubs to make their move. Clontarf fluffed their lines, beating Phoenix but losing to Merrion, and hence it was The Hills who were the big movers this week.
The Skerries side beat Pembroke and Railway Union to move up two places to 5th. The other big Leinster movers were Terenure who are in the midst of a decent run, and beat Malahide to move up to 32nd.
There is one new entry in the chart - Donacloney Mill are the result of a merger between Donacloney and Millpark and they enter 36th, just below fellow NCU Section 1 side Downpatrick.
A common question in the bars across the island is which is the strongest union, and how has 2017 been for each area? Looking purely at the sides who are in the top division of each union, we can see how each union compares, and how they have performed this season.
start 2017 | now | |
Leinster | 866.56 | 863.31 |
NCU | 849.70 | 860.66 |
NW | 728.70 | 728.12 |
So perhaps not surprisingly, it is Leinster that leads the way ahead of the NCU and North West. But there has been a slight change so far this season with Leinster dropping back a bit, and a big improvement in the fortunes of the NCU.
It is worth noting that although the NCU's Premier League has the top eight teams in the province, the North West's Premier League is missing Strabane (who are ranked above both Fox Lodge and Drummond), and Leinster's Division 1 is missing Railway Union (ranked above Cork County) and Merrion (ranked above everyone except Clontarf).
