As many will have heard this evening, Leinster and Ireland legend Gerry Duffy passed away today. Gerry was synonymous with Leinster Cricket Club, but also touched many other clubs, and also had very close ties with Merrion.
His playing career was outstanding, scoring 10264 Senior runs at an average of 35.24 as well as 944 wickets at 13.88, and he also played for Ireland 54 times, including the famous win against the West Indies in Sion Mills in 1969.
But there was much more to Gerry than his playing career, and he coached many hundreds of players over the years, and was a constant source of stories and friendship to many across the province.
Edward Liddle's biography of Gerry on Cricket Europe has been circulated this evening, and provides an excellent account of a great cricketing life - It can be read on the Cricket Europe site here
Funeral details will be circulated once they are known.
