Len Smith has been in Ireland the last few days. Len is the former Head Groundsman at Somerset CCC and Glamorgan CCC. His role nowadays is as a consultant with the IOG (Institute of Groundsmanship).
He visits 100s of cricket grounds across the UK and Ireland every year, advising and passing on the wisdom he has built up from being involved in cricket grounds at the highest level for many decades. He has visited the Leinster area a number of times in the last couple of years.
This time his visit was facilitated by Alan Lewis and Arthur Vincent of YMCA . Whist he was in Dublin, Guy Satchwell of the LCGA (Leinster Cricket Groundsmans Association) gave clubs and groundsmen the opportunity for Len to visit their ground and to give some advice and make recommendations on their plans for 2013 and beyond.
Len was able to visit the following clubs' grounds during his short whistlestop tour: North Kildare, Adamstown, Phoenix, Malahide, Merrion, YMCA, Railway Union, Clontarf, Leinster and Pembroke.
