As we continue to motor into the back-end of the season, this week will see some short updates on the state of play in our Open Competitions Tables, starting off today, with Divisions 4 down to 7.
DIVISION FOUR
In Division 4, Cork Harlequins 1 lead the way after a big win away to 2nd Place Adamstown 1; they now find themselves 36 points clear at the top of the table, and one win from their two remaining matches will see ‘Quins lift the Division 4 title. Twenty points separate 2nd Place Adamstown and 3rd place Sandyford 1, who will need Adamstown to slip up to usurp them in 2nd place. At the other end of the table, Merrion 3 is at the bottom, with four points separating them, and Phoenix 2 with Merrion 3 having a game in hand. They clash on Saturday, 31st August, which could be crucial in deciding the league standings.
DIVISION FIVE
Civil Service 2 leads Division 5 with eight wins from eleven fixtures. Their three remaining games see them visit seventh-place Malahide 3, host eighth-place Rush 2, and finally visit sixth-place Longford 1 to close out their season. Two wins from these three games should see them beat Laois 1 to the title. At the bottom of the table, nine points separate 8th and 5th place; Rush 2 sit last with two matches to play and host Malahide 3 to end their season after a trip to Civil Service. While a flurry of poor results from Longford 1 could see them finish in the bottom two.
DIVISION SIX
Castleknock 1 have already secured the Division 6 title with one match to spare after their win away to Leinster 3 on Sunday in Observatory Lane. Railway Union 3 look set to take 2nd place unless Kilkenny 1 finish with a late flurry and win their three remaining games. Carlow 1 faces a difficult task to get off the bottom of the table with one fixture to play; they will require a full-point victory and hope other matches go in their favour. Clontarf 3 and Mullingar 1 will battle it out to finish 6th with only a few points separating the two teams. Clontarf 3 host Castleknock 1 on Sunday 1st September, while Mullingar 1 finish with two home fixtures.
DIVISION SEVEN
Greystones 1 are in the box seat to win the Division 7 title. They are unbeaten in their ten fixtures, and one win from their remaining four games will confirm them as champions. Merrion 4 and North County 3 are battling it out for 2nd place, and both teams have three games left to play, including a clash at Inch between the two teams. At the other end of the table, it’s all to play for, with five teams still in danger of finishing in the bottom two. This weekend will be crucial with Tyrrelstown 1 at home to Athlone 1, Civil Service 3 at home to top-of-the-table Greystones 1, and Clondalkin 1 hosting Merrion 4 in their last home game of the season.
