The two schools’ Under 13 finals were held this week on Thursday (28th May) and Friday (29th May). The B final at Leinster CC saw St Mary’s defeat Headfort School by 131 runs. St Mary’s batted first and scored 179-6 with D. Cassidy (64), J. O’Sullivan (37) top scoring, C. Rowan-Hamilton was the best of the Headfort bowlers with 2-51. The Headfort reply never got going and they were all out for 48 with no player making double figures, J. O’Sullivan (3-7) and B. O’Loughlin 3-2 bowled very well on the day.
The A final at Railway Union of Friday was a closer affair with a strong Wesley side defeating Willow Park by 18 runs. Wesley scored 114-6 in a rain-affected 23 overs. S Ruttle and M Collins top-scored with 56 and 18 respectively. J Sood (4-28) and A Quigley (1-18) were the pick of the Willow bowlers.
The Willow reply was hampered by the loss of wickets at crucial stages brought on by good bowling from Wesley. D Cosgrave (46 n.o.). and J Sood (23) were the top-scorers. S Ruttle (2-15) and J Atkinson (2-15) had the best figures from an impressive Wesley attack.
May I take this opportunity to thank both clubs for hosting the finals at such short notice and to the umpires Amanda Dunlop and Michael Cotter who officiated on both days.
