The Leinster Lightning today announce two changes to the T20 squad that beat Munster last week for tomorrow’s Test Triangle Interprovincial T20 against the Northern Knights at Comber.
The Lightning are delighted to welcome back captain George Dockrell, who was completing exams last week, and he will come in for Andrew Balbirnie who has departed for the Vitality Blast.
Balbirnie’s Pembroke teammate Fiachra Tucker will ensure the All-Ireland winners have three squad members in the matchday 12, despite Barry McCarthy’s continued absence through injury, as he replaces Gareth Delany.
Delany will be a big loss after his all-round display against the Munster Reds. However, the form of opening batsman Kevin O’Brien and the miserly bowling of Peter Chase in the same game, mean the Lightning go into this crucial match full of confidence.
Head Coach Nigel Jones was delighted to start the campaign with 5-point victory last week.
“It was our objective to take five points from the game at Pembroke and it was very pleasing to do so. It was a strong performance from the boys, but we’ve got to now build on that as we go to Comber to face the Knights.
“There will be different questions asked of us in tomorrow’s game and it is up to the boys to answer those questions by raising their performance levels again. They’re excited about the challenge though and we’re all looking forward to getting out there.”
The Lightning continue their interprovincial campaign with a T20 fixture against the Northern Knights at 3.00pm on Tuesday August 25th. The squad for that match is below.
