Yesterday, Tuesday December 5th, saw a total of 33 transition year students from 15 different schools across Leinster completing the Welcome to Cricket Course. The course was run by the Cricket Leinster Development staff in conjunction with Cricket Ireland Coach Education. All female participates were allowed to attend for free as they're course fee will be covered by Women In Sport (WIS) funding. All students coming from schools in the South Dublin County Council (SDCC) area were also given free places, covered by SDCC.

The students learnt how to coach some basic cricket skills - under and over-arm throws, fielding techniques, basic batting and bowling drills. They had an introductory on how to differentiate sessions by changing target areas, rules of games, moving from stationary balls, to drop feeds, to underarm feeds. Throughout the course the students learnt many small, fun games to run to test the kids knowledge/skills. The main pillars of the course were to teach the participates how to assist with sessions and organise a fun, safe learning environment  for kids.
