Cricket Leinster is pleased to announce the introduction of a CL Under 23 Open District Cup competition in 2023.
This will be an exciting new underage pathway competition and will provide young club players with the opportunity to play ‘representative’ cricket for their District. Nigel Jones, Leinster Head Coach & Pathway Manager will therefore oversee the competition.
Based on our data for the 2022 season, there are almost 400 registered club players in the 18-23 age bracket. That said, there will be no lower age limit in terms of selection.
The competition will take place on Sundays throughout May 2023 on a 50-over basis (white ball, coloured clothing). The participating teams will represent Dublin City, South Dublin, Fingal and Dublin University.
Each team will play each other once with all games involving Dublin University hosted at College Park.
Full competition regulations will be published in due course and will be akin to IP/Future Series cricket.
The three District teams will be managed by experienced CL development staff. Local (district) selection panels will also be appointed to work with each manager on player/squad selections.
Playing kit will be supplied by CL with part funding from the Local Authorities from which the District teams are derived.
The team which tops the league table will be awarded the CL Siggins U23 District Trophy.
