The 2023 season is now just a few weeks away - and in preparation for the new season, we are encouraging as many people as possible to provide their services (again) as independent umpires via the LCU&SA appointments & training systems.
As a club cricket community, it is essential that we maintain (and where possible) increase the level of independent umpire coverage across our Open & Women’s competitions. This is recognised by all as important to the match-day experience in terms of fairness, objectivity, consistency and behaviour.
Cricket Leinster recognises the criticality of the role fulfilled by our appointed umpires and equally we understand the increasing cost & time pressures associated with umpiring on a regular basis throughout the province. It has also been a couple of years since the umpire expense/fee rates were reviewed.
It makes sense that appointments largely continue to be made on a 'top-down' basis in line with the LCU&SA gradings - in that context, the umpiring expense/fee schedule for 2023 will be as follows:
Umpires who stand in longer-form matches at the following 'higher' levels will receive an expense/fee of €65 per match:
- Open Premier League
- Women's Pilkington Plate
- Open Championship
- Open 2nd XI Premier League- Open Division 4
Umpires who stand in Women’s Division 1 (T20) and Senior Open T20 (Alan Murray Cup) fixtures will receive an expense/fee of €40 per match.
Umpire expenses/fees for all other levels (both Open & Women’s) will be as follows:
- League/Cup Appointment: €55 per match
- T20 League/Cup Appointment: €35 per match
These increased expense/fee levels are intended to mitigate inflationary cost impacts on our umpires whilst also demonstrating our appreciation of the criticality of the role to the successful operation of club cricket in Leinster.
In recognition of our challenge to maintain and increase coverage levels, each umpire who fulfils more than ten (10) League/Cup appointments will be entitled to an additional discrete expense payment of €100 which will be paid alongside their end-of-season match expenses/fees payment.
All umpires (existing & new) are encouraged to register to participate for the 2023 season.
The LCU&SA provides all required training & support which is very much appreciated.
Cricket Leinster has also just renewed the insurance cover for all umpires for the 2023 season - this continues to be fully funded via CL.
All expense/fee payments will continue to be provided via Cricket Leinster.
Garda Vetting is a prerequisite for participation in line with our statutory safeguarding obligations - documents can be sent on a private & confidential basis to:
