Cricket Leinster is pleased to confirm that we will be liaising with the LCU&SA during the off-season to agree an integrated approach to umpiring & scoring across the province for 2021 and beyond.
In the interim and to ensure cohesion for this abbreviated season, it has been agreed that the LCU&SA will appoint a nominee to the CL Cricket Committee and CL Open Competitions Committee.
In a new development, CL will appoint ‘junior umpires’ to lower level games not covered by LCU&SA members, typically individuals who have completed the recent CL umpires training. Garda vetting for any new ‘junior umpires’ will be managed through the CL office. This is part of CL’s commitment to improve umpire coverage especially for lower league cricket.
The LCU&SA will continue to make umpire appointments within their capacity for this curtailed season.
All appointments (whether via LCU&SA or CL directly) will be made via Matt Anson and the Who's-the-Umpire system (to ensure cohesion).
In line with best practice governance, the payment process for umpires is being changed with immediate effect in that CL will now pay all umpires expenses directly to the individuals concerned.
In this regard, all umpires wishing to stand in CL competitions will be required to supply relevant bank details to CL Accounts. CL will also process any deductions required for LCU&SA members.
The LCU&SA will continue to represent umpiring & scoring in Leinster at IACUS until further discussions take place in the off-season and in advance of the next IACUS AGM (where governance change proposals may be tabled in respect of Leinster).
Cricket Leinster expects the ‘Return-to-Play’ protocols to be published very shortly by Cricket Ireland.
Amongst other things, these protocols will address the Covid-19 safety aspects of umpiring & scoring and all stakeholders will be fully briefed in advance of the first competitive club fixtures in mid July.
