An upgraded version of the Cricket Leinster Data Centre, which is sponsored by Principal Logistics Technologies, has been launched. There are two main changes, a new Player Profile feature and a number of additional reports.
Anyone who is familiar with the Data Centre will know that it has always been possible to get batting and bowling details on an individual player, but it required going on something of a jouney using one of the set reports to identify the club and player. Under the new Player Profile you can access the performance details directly for anyone who has participated in any Leinster Open Competition match since 2011. Batting and bowling averages are available, and these can be filtered by competition [Division], for All /Sen / T20 matches and by year. It is also possible to get a breakdown of the ways players have been out in their careers.
There are also a number of new reports that have been added to the Data Centre. It is now possible to search for upcoming batting, bowling and matches milestones and most runs and wickets by season. These reports are additional to the existing top batting, bowling and wicket-keeping aggregates, top partnerships, most catches in field, best performances with bat / ball in a match and the standard averages.
We will continue to work with Sportstatz, the developers of the software that produces to current statistics, to extend the number of reports available and the information contained within them.
Now that we are in our seventh year of full records, there is plenty of data available. Take the report on batting partnerships. Last weekend Alex Stiles and Ciaran Divney put on 190 for the 9th wicket for Railway 1sts v Malahide 1sts in D2. But it is not the highest of the season - that position [after two weeks] is held by Vikas Dhiman and Neil Brown [217*] for Merrion IIs v Pembroke IIs. If you want to go back to 2011 the Stiles / Divney partnership is joint 71st, it is the 15th highest in D2 [the table toppers being Josh Tazman-Jones and Hughie Pike who put on 342 for the 2nd wicket for Trinity in College Park against Leinster II in 2013] and it is the second highest 9th wicket partnership after the 220* between Cormac Myers and Aaron Fox for Slieve Bloom v Cabinteely, also in 2013. Finally, it is the third highest partnership for Railway 1st XI over the last six years - the two top spots taken by Pat Collins and Kenny Carroll.
Of course we only have general statistics for the period from 2011. But insofar as senior* matches are concerned we do have complete records of all club matches going back to 1919. These records are gradually being transferred from paper to digital form and will in due course be added to the Data Centre.
Finally, the Data Centre has details of the winners and runners up of Leinster Competitions going back to the Intermediate Cup in 1895. There are a number of gaps in information from the early years which remain to be filled.
History and records are an important part of Leinster club cricket. Cricket Leinster is fortunate to have the detailed records that Derek Scott compiled over the yeras and which are part of the Deerek Scott Archive. With the help of volunteers in the clubs work has commenced to digitise these records so that they can be made available to everyone.
*Senior in this context refers to the Senior League [D1], OCD2 since the creation of an eight team D1 league, the various League Cups [often known as the Wiggins Teape league from an early sponsor] and the Leinster Senior Cup.
