Match Reports sent in by various clubs
Leinster v Merrion in Observatory lane.
Toss won by Merrion (much to Isobel's surprise!) and elected to bat first.
Rachel Delaney and Leah Paul opened the batting putting on a first wicket stand of 76 before Sophie MacMahon got the break through dismissing Delaney for 28. Isobel Joyce joined Paul and had a 61 partnership. Paul 59 off 49 balls and Joyce 45 off 31 balls. Merrion had a total of 153 for 2 in their 20 over.
Leinster got off to a rocky start having Bronwyn Sumption and Pia Diepman both out LBW. Laura Delany scored a quick 20 before also being given out LBW also. Anna Kerrison 23 off 37. Una Raymond-Hoey 51 off 44 and Sophie MacMahon 21 off 13. Leinster unfortunately came 21 runs short.
North Kildare v The Hills in The Maw
With Lucy Small winning the toss and putting The Hills into bat, the umpires informed the girls to be quick through their overs. Miranda Andrews and Tracy Clinton got The Hills of to a good start. North Kildare broke through in the fifth and sixth over, removing Miranda and Katie Boylan. Ciara Metcalfe and Tracy Clinton then continued to build their innings. Bernard O'Mara from Bagnelstown CC has been newly appointed as Women's 1st XI coach in North Kildare CC, and there has been a change in captaincy this year for both the 1st and 2nd XI. Young Shana Lipson-Ngai taking over the reigns from Lucy Small in Division 1.
Unfortunately, the North Kildare bowling performance was overshadowed by 50 wides - adding to the total and amount of overs in the innings. The Hills finished on 161.
Melissa and Naomi Scott-Hayward opened for North Kildare. Katie Boylan's opening spell challenging the opening pair before she removed Melissa LBW for 21. Tracy Clinton put the ball on the spot as usual and built the pressure from the opposite end. Wickets fell regularly. Lucy Small came in lower down the order, and showed how she can punch the ball around to all corners of the ground. Lucy finished on a well earned 57.
Miranda Andrews who started in the keeping gloves, came onto bowl and put the 'nail in the coffin'. Miranda finished with 4 wickets for 23.
North Kildare finished on 121 all out, and The Hills secured their first win of the season.
YMCA v Pembroke in Claremont Road
YM won by 9 wickets. YM won the toss and elected to field. Shauna Kavanagh and Kim Garth opened for Pembroke, but tight bowling and fielding upfront built pressure well, and brought a quick succession of wickets.
Kim batted through for 51* and Cathy Murphy complemented with 11. New Zealander Anna Peterson, had a good league debut with figures of 3-24 and claimed some vital wickets. Vanshika Shukla impressed with 1-18 off her 4 overs.
Pembroke made 113-8. Clare Shillington and Gaby Lewis opened up for YM chasing 114 and wasted no time. Shillington blasted 69* and Gaby made an elegant 30 to chase it down in the 13th over for the loss of 1 wicket.
