A weekend badly disrupted by rain nonetheless saw two teams, Dundrum 1 [D5] and Railway 4 [D11] secure their second wins of the season and make early claims to be the teams to beat in their respective Divisions.
Perhaps linked to the weather, there were some very low scores. Dublin University 3 only scored 42 in their match against Sandyford with extras the only one to get into double figures. Arul Viswanathan’s 6/10 for Sandyford was the outstanding bowling performance of the weekend and may take some beating all season.
There were no centuries but Sean Tomlinson’s 71 for Railway 4 chasing down Civil Service 5s 156 was probably the most telling batting contribution of the weekend. The highest score goes to the ever-young Bob Howell of Merrion 7 who made 74 in a score of 238 to provide the platform for victory over Phoenix 5s.
Highest aggregate score saw North County 2s make 266 [with David Casey top score with 65] to secure a comfortable win over Civil Service. Terry Richardson’s 6/29 might on another day have been the best bowling over the weekend.
Finally, three results were determined by Duckworth Lewis. Congratulations to all concerned for making this possible.
