With a second weekend disrupted by the weather and many matches cancelled, the season has yet to kick-off for many teams. But despite the weather Railway U IIIs have raced to an early lead in D11 being the only team in the Open Competitions to score three wins out of three.
A number of clubs have won their first two games and it is interesting to note how well the top teams in certain clubs have started the season i.e. Balbriggan, Dundrum and Sandford.
Low scores continue to dominate the early season results. North County IIIs have the dubious honour of achieving the lowest score of the weekend, 29 all out against Clontarf IIIs, though they did bounce back the following day to chase down 186 against Leinster IIIs. Other low scores included Adamstown's 39 against Dundalk and Dublin University III's 69, which still led to a close game with Leinster VIIs only getting home by 1 wicket.
The most unusual match at the other end of the sprectrum was that between North Kildare and Oakhill. Batting first NK scored 323/7, to be followed by Oakhill reaching 224 for 2. Malahide IIs had the best chase of the weekend, reaching 267/8 over Mullingar.
There were a number of centuries - Barry Archer 114* for Balbriggan set up an important victory over Pembroke IIs and North Kildare's high score against Oakhill owed greatly to 113 from I Ul-Haq. With so many low scores it is no surprise that there were a number of '5/fors'. The outstanding bowling achievement of the weekend was P Rodgers 6/9 that set up Leinster V for a win against Halverstown. Other notable performances were M Ryans 5/6 for Clontarf III in the win against N County IIIs, S Sethi Sethi's 5/13 for N Kildare against Pembroke IVs and Y Ali's 5/25 for YMCA II against Hills IIs.
