With only six more weekends until the 2012 season starts, it's time for the OCC to fully brief all the clubs on the changes that have been made for this year, the way the administrative side of the season is run, and how best to make it easy for you the clubs to get through to September unscathed.
There is a vast amount of information that we need to give you, so rather than swamp you with documents, this article contains the most urgent items that need your attention over the next few weeks.
Some things (such as regulations) are not quite ready, so we'll detail those as soon as we are in a position to send them on.
We aim to be as available, communicative and open as possible. If you have any problems, queries or questions during the season, please get in touch with any of the committee (below), and we'll be glad to help. We can also be contacted on the Cricket Leinster Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/cricketleinster or on Twitter, @cricketleinster

Finally, this has been sent out to as many people in each club as possible. As the year progresses, there will be plenty of communication. This only works though if the clubs read the information. Ideally mails will be going to the Director of Cricket, Chairman of Selectors etc, and the captains of any teams that are affected by the mail. If I'm addressing mails to the wrong address, or if clubs wish to send me email addresses of their captains, please do.
Best of luck for the season,
Paul
1. Cricket Leinster Website
Nearly all of the administration for the season is performed through the Cricket Leinster website. For those of you who were involved with this last year, nothing major has changed.
However, those of you who are from clubs who are new to LCU competitions (or if you have taken on a new role in your club) will need to get up to speed on the operation of the website.
A guide was designed last year, and it will help you through the back end of the website.
The guide can be found on the website at http://www.cricketleinster.ie/regulations/guidance, and can be downloaded here
In order to get entry to the website, you will need login details. Nothing has changed since 2011, and you should be able to get the details from someone in your club, assuming you don’t have them to hand. If you are from a new club, or cannot track down the existing password, please get in touch with Paul Reynolds
2. Player Registration
The LCU is this year basing the amount of each club’s subscriptions by the number of players it has registered on April 1st. Although this is nothing to do with the OCC, it means that the players you have registered on the website, should as closely match the players who will be playing this year as possible. Players who are not playing in 2012 should be removed.
There have been a couple of changes in the information required for player registration this year. All the information must be provided before a player will be approved. There is now a “youth” box to be selected. If the player is a youth player (born after 1st September 1992), then his/her date of birth must also be entered.
The OCC will be taking a stricter approach to clubs playing players who are unregistered in 2012.
3. Turf and non-turf pitches
At the LCU’s Autumn AGM, it was decided to set up a working group to look at the issue of the use of non-turf pitches in the province.
That Working Group, has proposed (and this has been adopted) that for 2012 ONLY, all matches in the Open Competitions may be played on non-turf wickets.
For Division 1, 2 and the Senior Cup, host clubs must inform the OCC before April 1stwhich matches they will be playing on a non-turf pitch. For all other divisions and cups the existing regulation remains (whereby clubs must contact the opposition 48 hours at the latest before the game if they are changing the surface that the match is to be played on).
The OCC will assume that all Division 1, 2, Alan Murray and LHW Senior Cup matches will be played on grass (except for Terenure matches which are played on non-turf) UNLESS a club informs us otherwise, before Sunday April 1st 2012.
4. Starrings
There have been several changes to the starring procedures, notably the merging of the league and cup starrings. A full document will be sent to clubs in the next few days, fully outlining the way in which the OCC will police starrings.
At the moment, you should note that the deadline for the submission of starrings through the website is still the Tuesday before the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
The dates whereby starrings MUST be submitted in 2012 are April 10th, May 8th, June 12th, July 10th and August 7th
As always, please get in touch with Paul Reynolds or Kevin Gallagher if you have any questions that any of this raises.
