Cricket Leinster's All Ireland Rankings once again return to the site, with a weekly look at which clubs in the four main unions are going up and which are going down.
If the above sentence means very little to you, then we welcome you as a new reader, and invite you to sit down, relax and get to know the ins and outs of club cricket across the island.
Our All Ireland Rankings are based on the ICC's country rankings. Points are awarded for each match a club's 1st team plays, with more points awarded for matches against strong opposition than against a weaker one. More recent performances add more to a team's overall score than older ones. All that is combined to make an overall score, that is then compared with other clubs across Leinster, Munster, the NCU and the North West.
Only matches in non T20 cricket are included, and only those in the top two divisions of each region. So for instance a team from Leinster would have matches included from the League, Senior Cup and Irish Senior (or National) Cup. For a fuller explanation, have a look at the introductory article on this site here.
At the end of 2014, YMCA were the top team in the land, with Instonians of the NCU in second place, and with Clontarf and Merrion chasing closely behind. Leinster's dominance is reflected by them having eight teams in the top 20, as well as four in the top 10 (which has now gone up to 5). Again, a full history can be found on the introductory article.
So who will end the 2015 season as champions, and will it be a Leinster side for only the 6th time since 2001 (after YMCA in 2014, Railway Union (2010), and North County (2005, 2006 and 2008) ).
Last week saw rain sweep across Leinster, relenting enough to let The Hills complete their demolition of Dublin University, a result that saw them move up one place to 6th.
In the North West, Brigade's loss to Donemana saw them slip two to 12th, with Pembroke moving above them as Brigade's score dropped. Wins for Bready and CIYMS (who will surely finish the season well inside the top 10), also saw them move up the table.
Biggest movers of the week were Bangor who went up two places, leapfrogging their opponents Templepatick in the process.
The Bank Holiday weekend will heopfully bring lots of cricket across the island, and we will see how it affects the rankings this time next week.
