MVP 2012 – What a difference a game makes…. Corrections and apologies
“The King is dead, long live the King.”
Anto Coates’s [Ring Commons] reign as the 2012 MVP didn’t last long as we received notification of an error in the figures previously supplied. One game, just one game out of all those played this summer had been entered into the database twice and with Sod’s Law firmly in operation, it had to include our declared winner, Anto Coates.
Ring Commons versus Sandyford was the culprit, sneaking into the OCC’s figures twice. It only came to light as the OCC finalised the league tables and once notified, it was felt it was only right and proper to make the “adjustment” to the figures.
I can only apologise profusely to Anto Coates and the other 21 players that this has affected, but hope that as there was no trophy, and definitely no prize money that they won’t be too put out.
It will come as no surprise to see that R. Meraj [Laois] is now the champion of the MVP points league (this will need a snappier title next season and perhaps even a sponsor? Anyone, anyone??). Anto Coates lost 58 points as a result of the "adjustment" and this was enough for R. Meraj to take his place as winner. Anto Coates remained ahead of A. Qasim in second.
The final top three had the following figures…
Name | Club | Mt | HS | 50 | 100 | Avg | Runs | Best Bowl | 5I | Avg | Wkt | Ct | St | points | rank |
R Meraj | Laois | 17 | 199 | 4 | 2 | 59.00 | 826 | 5-16 | 1 | 14.4 | 29 | 5 | 0 | 1806 | 1 |
A Coates | Ring | 18 | 203 | 2 | 2 | 47.50 | 760 | 4-13 | 0 | 14.4 | 31 | 8 | 0 | 1760 | 2 |
A Qasim | Balb | 24 | 106* | 1 | 1 | 23.88 | 382 | 5-26 | 2 | 13.4 | 46 | 7 | 0 | 1712 | 3 |
Anto Coates also falls off the top run scoring podium, with MT Raza [R&SPU] filling third place. Anto’s total runs fell to 760, which was still good enough for fourth (out of over 2,100).
R. White [Ring Commons] is another victim of the “adjustment” as he had taken three catches in this duplicated game. Third place in the catches (with no stumpings) category R. White slips back to 13 catches and Paul Lawson [Pembroke] and J. Cassidy [YMCA] step onto the lowest podium step and are now third with 14 catches.
On the other team involved in this double entry error, Sandyford’s top wicket taker, Stephen Langton had appeared in third spot in the most wickets by a bowler in LCU cricket. The adjustment of one wicket sees him slip to fourth instead of third. Sorry Stephen.
Perhaps luckily these seem to be the only changes this additional game has made to the top standings. Again, I apologise unreservedly to those players affected and hope that this will be the final “adjustment” for the figures.
