The recent government announcement that youth training could commence on April 26th was hugely welcomed for all in the sport. As we progress towards the normal start of the season we await further details from Sport Ireland & Cricket Ireland as to when competitions could start.
In preparation for this both the Womens & Youth Committees have been making plans as best possible in order that competition can get underway as quickly as the green light is given.
The Women’s committee has provisionally structured four divisions, four knockout cups and the Pilkington Plate.
The Youth committee has provisionally considered the following groups:
Our Development Officers are also planning a whole series of District Blitz events for all registered Under 9 players – more details to follow.
All of these competition structures are of course dependent on when Cricket Ireland receive clearance for club cricket to commence and we thank them for their support in making the case for club cricket to Sport Ireland and the government generally.
In the meantime players and parents are asked to register for the season. Don’t forget that all youth cricketers that register receive full personal accident insurance and a branded starter pack (t-shirt, bat and ball).
In addition, for any under 9s registered their club will also be refunded €3.00 for all under 9s which will be paid as a once-off lump sum to contribute to club coaching & supervision costs.
We are all looking forward to cricket restarting and are working towards having everything in place to allow us to hit the ground running. Further updates will be issued in due course – but registration is the first step towards the cricket season!
