Women's and Girls - Development Update
With just over 3 weeks complete, I thought that it would be helpful to provide a short update on progress with my new role:
Key highlights to-date:
- So far, I have met with key representatives from Merrion, Malahide, Phoenix, Leinster, Clontarf, Greystones and Terenure to understand how I can support their existing female programme and equally how we can develop things further (it’s important for me to understand what is working, what is not working and future club-based plans).
- Commenced a dialogue with clubs on future league competition structures - significant potential for a lower league with a strong beginners/social focus.
- Providing support to club-based ‘Give-it-a-Blast’ initiatives which are being well attended and supported which is very encouraging.
- Establishing a Group to examine how we can transform our Schools cricket offering, especially to Secondary Schools (have also created a simple contact sheet with details of clubs with girls and or women’s sections, where they are, how to contact them and what time their training sessions are on - for use with schools and others).
- Currently planning/designing an Indoor Cricket League Competition, with some Schools already committed to participating which is very encouraging.
I am also participating at the Women’s Committee meetings, chaired by Siobhan McBennett and liaising closely with Naomi Scott-Hayward to ensure all our efforts are co-ordinated and cohesive.
This is a very exciting time for female cricket in Leinster and I am thoroughly enjoying my role so far - as always, please feel free to contact me at any stage:
