The Cricket Leinster Women’s Committee is delighted to announce the structures for the 2022 Season.
Once again we are delighted that all our league and cup competitions will be sponsored by Sprint Coatings Ltd, with thanks to Alan Maginnis in particular for this ongoing support. This support greatly assists the women’s committee in delivering on our expansion plans and is especially welcome during these challenging times
For the 2022 season the number of competing teams rises from 29 in 2021 to 33 in 2022. In particular we are delighted to welcome three new clubs to Women’s Competitions; Balbriggan, Mullingar & Knockharley.
This continued expansion is a testament to the development work by the Cricket Leinster development staff and by club coaches. The broad focussed development programmes that support women’s cricket are unrivalled in their success in terms of increasing participation and retaining female players in the game.
League Competitions
There will be four leagues again in 2022, retaining the expansion from 2020. Each league will be played in the T20 format with centrally made fixtures for all competitions.
Pilkington Plate
The Women’s Committee is delighted to retain and expand the Pilkington Plate as a stand-alone competition for the 2022 season. In order to act as a gateway competition to the Super Series 50 over matches, the Pilkington Plate will revert to a 40 over match format for 2022.
The Women’s committee was delighted to accept applications from Balbriggan and North Kildare to enter the Pilkington Plate, bringing the total teams to ten. The competition will be played in round-robin format with two group of five. The winners of each group will progress to the end of season showpiece final.
Cup Competitions
The committee is delighted to retain four knockout cup competitions in the 2022 season. The draws were undertaken at a recent women’s committee meeting and are shown below. The Senior Cup final will be staged as a double header with the OCC equivalent Alan Murray Cup. All other finals will be arranged for weekend dates in order to recognise the changing demographics of players.
Once further details on the season are known, all fixtures will be made centrally and published on the Cricket Leinster Website. In the meantime players can register for the season at this link
