This weeks women’s cricket kicks off with D2 Rush 1’s traveling to Observatory Lane in Rathmines. Emma Ryan has taken over the captaincy after Rush were relegated last summer to D2. Rush have set out on a mission to rebuild as a team and gain numbers, but taking on Leinster 2’s will be a big test of what's to come in that league.
On Wednesday Malahide 2’s host The Hills 2’s and Barbara Musgrave will take Pembroke 2’s to Phoenix park in search of their 2nd win this summer. Vanessa Kelada the 2013 Division 3 batting winner, will be trying to put her mark on that game. This league is interesting, and maybe the one to watch with a lot of newbies and underage superstars in the making, filtering from schools cricket and other sports.
Greystones travel to Trinity on Friday to take on Dublin University in their 3rd game. DU have a win and loss this season, so taking double points from this game will be a high priority for Greystones CC.
Sunday sees the start of the Pilkington Cup for the D1 teams. 2014 PC Champs Pembroke host Leinster who are now being coached by David Langford-Smith (ex opening bowler for Ireland men and creator of the ferret dance) so it will be a great contest in Sydney Parade.
Merrion go in search of their 2nd win of 2014 as they travel to the Vineyard to take on the newly formed Fingal team. The Fingal team were the sixth team to be added to the Pilkington [40 Over] Competition this year, with players from Rush and The Hills joining together.
2013 D2 league winners, YMCA make their first appearance in the PC competition after 6 years absence against North Kildare. YM’s new players Clare Shillington and Sharon Smyth will play their first game alongside the young talent of Lucy Reilly and the Lewis sisters. Emma Flanagan is still away at college in the UK.
Very early days to know what way any of the divisions will fare out, a lot of promising talent on show in every division with a good mix of new and old.
