In what is a massive year for women’s cricket, the Academy Plus Leinster Women's Division 1 gets underway this evening with two 20-over contests.
At international level, professional contracts are being offered for the very first time. The Super 3s competition is expanding and growing in strength and depth year-on-year, with another match being hosted by the NCU this season.
Meanwhile in the top division of Leinster cricket, there have been some interesting moves over the off-season. Ireland wicket-keeper Mary Waldron has moved to Pembroke and will captain the side as they face YMCA.
YMCA themselves are boosted by the arrival of Kerrie Tomlinson from Clontarf. Completing the major moves over the off-season is Tomlinson’s replacement in Clontarf.
Isobel Joyce, recently appointed Women and Girls Development Officer with the province, has also taken on a coaching role with Clontarf and will play for them this season.
The action gets underway this evening and Peter Boyd will be in Anglesea Road covering Merrion against Malahide on @cricketleinster with a match report here following the match.
General Manager of Cricket Leinster Philip Smith is delighted to have Academy Plus Insurance as title sponsors for the Women’s Division One. “Academy Plus provide security for students who are away from home studying here in Ireland and we’re very happy to have their valuable support of the women’s game in Leinster.”
