In addition, all League winning teams will be presented with their Trophies & Medals at this event.
As you will see below, there are no less than 10 clubs represented amongst the individual winners with Pembroke set to collect no less than 4 individual trophies in addition to their league success as Division 4 Champions for 2022.
In terms of the ‘named’ trophies, the 2022 winners are as follows:
Crawford Cup (Division One Batting)
The Crawford Cup for Division One batting has been won by Gaby Lewis who amassed 439 runs at an incredible average of 109.75 in her 9 appearances for YMCA. This performance included two hundreds and a highest score of 154 not out.
This trophy was donated by Clarissa Crawford (subsequently Pilkington) who was an outstanding cricketer for Dublin University in the first dawn of women’s cricket and continued a strong participation as player and administrator when it was revived.
Harrison Cup (Division One Bowling)
The Harrison Cup for Division One bowling will be presented to Alice Tector who took 17 senior wickets at an excellent average of 11.29 including a best bowling of 5-7.
This trophy dates from the 1950s and Clarissa Crawford was in fact the first winner. It is worth noting that Susan Bray of Clontarf won this cup no fewer than ten times between 1985 and 1998.
Dawson Cup (Division One Wicket-Keeping)
The Dawson Cup will be presented this year to Ellen Ridgeway of Leinster for her 11 dismissals (5 stumpings, 6 catches) in her 12 appearances for Leinster’s first team.
By way of background, this trophy was donated by Sandra Dawson in 1980. Sandra kept wicket for YMCA and Ireland on many occasions in the 1990s and in fact won the trophy herself on two occasions.
Hearnden Cup (Division Two Wicket-Keeping)
With 9 catches and a stumping, the Hearnden Cup winner for 2022 is Jane Butterly from Rush.
Helen Hearnden (nee McDonnell), who presented this trophy, was an outstanding wicketkeeper for the Leinster and subsequently Pembroke and the Irish International team.
Sharp Cup (Division Three Batting)
The Sharp Cup for Division Three batting has been won by Anna Callahan of Railway Union who amassed 294 runs at an excellent average of 49.00 which included 3 50s and a best of 73 not out.
By the early 1980s, the competitions of the then Leinster Women’s Cricket Union were sufficiently well established that there were enough teams to form a Third League Division and a Batting Cup was donated by Mary Sharp who is still actively involved across many CL committees and is the President Elect of Cricket Ireland.
Schmidt Cup (Division Three Bowling)
This trophy has been won by Ruth Dillon of Terenure and is a positive reflection of the regeneration of Women’s cricket in Terenure. Ruth is a very worthy winner having taken 21 wickets at an excellent average of just 10.00 and a best bowling of 4-15.
This trophy was presented by Barbara Schmidt of Phoenix who was also very much instrumental in the revival of Women’s Cricket. She served the game not only in that role but went on to be the first female President of a Club in Leinster.
Howard Cup (Top All-Rounder)
The Howard Cup for top all-rounder has been won by Leah Paul of Merrion who scored 450 runs at an average of 75.00 and took 12 wickets at an average of 14.08.
This trophy was presented by and commemorates Isolde Howard, a distinguished player and organiser in the early days of women’s cricket right back to the 1930s and who remained active when it was restarted in the 1970s. Isolde played for Dartry, one of the clubs that unfortunately did not survive to the second coming but became a distinguished member of Leinster. It is worthy of mention that Miriam Grealey won this trophy on no less than 7 occasions.
Clarissa Pilkington/D Farrell Trophy (Most Improved Young Player)
The most improved player award for 2022 will be presented to Christina Coulter Reilly of Clontarf who scored 296 runs for Clontarf’s first team whilst also taking 13 wickets at 16.92.
This trophy was initiated in 1993, donated by Clarissa Pilkington and many of the winners have gone on to very much fulfil their early promise.
