Cricket Leinster can today confirm the winners of the wicket-keeping trophies across the Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 1-4 for 2020.
Across all of the Divisions, the Women’s Committee has decided that in the event of a tie for the winner of the cup, the greater number of stumpings taken would be used as a tie-breaker.
In Sprint Coatings Division 1, the Dawson Cup has been awarded to Hannah Pasley of Clontarf CC. There was a tie at the top of the standings, with Pasley and Amy Hunter both finishing with the same number of dismissals. Pasley was declared the winner on the basis of her three stumpings, compared to Hunter’s two.
The trophy itself was donated by Sandra Dawson who kept wicket for YMCA and Ireland on many occasions in the 1990s and in fact won it herself on two occasions. In the last ten years the trophy has been dominated by Valmai Gee of Leinster and Mary Waldron of Malahide but both are still some way behind the record of Helen Hearnden (McDonnell) who was the winner in seven of the first nine years of its existence.
The Hearnden Cup for leading keeper in Sprint Coatings Division 2 has been awarded to Isabel Saeed-Maguire of Leinster CC. Again, as with Division 1, there was a tie at the top between Saeed-Maguire and Siuin Woods of YMCA. Saeed-Maguire however managed to take three stumpings and therefore has won the cup on the tie-breaker.
This trophy was donated by Helen Hearnden (nee McDonnell) who was an outstanding wicketkeeper for the Leinster and subsequently Pembroke clubs and the Irish international team.
In Sprint Coatings Division 3, the wicket-keeping cup has been won by Pippa Guy of Pembroke 2 who also won the League itself.
Finally, in Sprint Coatings Division 4, the winner of the wicket-keeping award is Rosie Newton of Greystones CC. Her three catches put her ahead of Railway’s Aoife O’Brien, who managed two victims behind the stumps.
Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to Hannah, Isabel, Pippa and Rosie on winning their respective wicket-keeping awards for the 2020 season.
