A fun ‘world cup’ afternoon of cricket for U11 girls from all clubs is taking place in Malahide Cricket Club on Tuesday 16th August. This is the second year of the event and participants from all across Leinster will take part.
Reflecting the greater popularity of cricket for girls, the aim of the day is to broaden the appeal of the game among the youngest age group. Three years ago the Leinster Cricket Youth Section introduced an U11 competition for girls and seven teams entered last year. It is hoped that more teams will take part in 2012. There will also be winter training for a Leinster U11 Girls Squad.
Malahide hope that about 40–50 girls will participate on the day. The Leinster U15 Girls Squad will be looking after the individual teams. If you are interested in taking part, contact your local club immediately to put your name forward.
