Wednesday the 25th of November saw Cricket Leinster launch a four week ‘Young Leaders’ coaching course for the transition year students at The High School in Rathgar. The course is being led by Fintan Mc Allister (Dublin City Development Officer) and Brían O’ Rourke (Cricket Leinster Development Manager - South Leinster)
Over the course of the four weeks the students will be learning the different aspects involved of coaching batting, bowling, fielding, wicket-keeping and cricket specific warm ups. The transition year students are all keen to get involved in assisting coaching sessions at the school to the 1st and 2nd year teams when the school season kicks off in April next year.
It's fantastic to see young cricketers keen to develop their coaching skills at the school. P.E teacher Adam Malin at The High School commented “we are delighted to have Cricket Leinster in for the coaching course. The school has a strong history of cricket and most of the students attending the course are keen cricketers who are part of the local clubs. It's a great opportunity for the girls and boys to get involved with our younger teams in the new year.”
The majority of the students hail from Terenure CC and this course gives them a base for the next stage which is the two day course in “Coaching Kids 5-11 Year Olds” which will allow them to assist coaches at sessions in their local clubs.
We hope to run more of these programmes in the secondary schools throughout the city in 2021 and give secondary school students the chance to get involved in coaching.
Cricket Leinster would like to acknowledge the assistance and support of Dublin City Council. The council has played a crucial role in supporting our cricket programs throughout the city.
